What EDI is Not

Most organizations use the web to pontificate about how great they are (check out the rest of our site because we kinda have done just that!). We thought that it might be refreshing to have a company describe what they are not.

Body Shop

EDI really specializes in business process consulting and world class maintenance best practices. We recently got a laugh when one of the large Systems Integrators called us looking for a Maximo report writer who could help with one of their customer's ongoing projects "maybe even starting this coming Monday." Our expert consultants and implementers are typically utilized 100% for clients with long-term commitments in place.

We also have really good Project Managers and project methodologies that help us successfully lead and manage our engagements. We’ve seen implementations get off track when not enough upfront business process work is done or when deep maintenance experience is not emphasized. Some people think they can successfully complete a project by throwing a couple of Maximo bodies at it. You need brains, too.

RFP Machine

Who came up with the idea of an RFP anyway? Here’s a process where an organization that needs to save money and improve efficiencies by extending the life of their expensive assets starts by releasing an RFP. The RFP dictates that in an extraordinarily short amount of time a vendor must provide an extensive amount of detail and an accurate quote based on the client’s own description of their own inefficient processes. And this is all done while limiting communication between the organizations through one procurement representative. If you are writing an RFP to hire a consulting firm to help you, don’t you want to communicate your challenges as much as possible so that the vendor can make recommendations based on their own expertise? Instead of increasing fair competition, EDI thinks RFPs actually increase inefficiencies and costs.

Global, Multinational Corporation

EDI conducts very few conference calls per week and the ones that are held have specific agendas and remain on point. For our client meetings we like to bring only contributors and we try to limit "multi-legged" sales calls. We tend to cut to the chase as we’re really just trying to get things done. After working hours, we love to get together and have some fun.
